This Editorial Policy explains how The VET Sector prepares, reviews, labels and corrects news, commentary, analysis, opinion, sponsored content and contributor material. The site aims to publish accurate, fair and useful sector information while clearly distinguishing editorial content from advertising, sponsorship, opinion and promotional material.
About this website and its audience
The VET Sector is the sector news and publications website of CAQA Groups and a Career Calling International initiative. It publishes news, commentary, analysis and sector intelligence for Australia's vocational education, training and skills community, including RTO owners and CEOs, compliance and quality managers, trainers and assessors, higher education and ELICOS staff, industry bodies, policymakers and researchers. The services offered on this website are editorial in nature: news articles and blogs, e-zines and magazines, leadership interviews, opinion pieces, the Intelligence Hub, the VET Calendar, reference material such as the glossary and FAQs, classifieds, and information about advertising with us. No payments are taken through this website.
Editorial independence
Editorial decisions on this website are made by the editorial team. Advertisers, sponsors and commercial partners do not decide what news we cover, how we cover it, or what conclusions our analysis reaches. The VET Sector is part of CAQA Groups, and other CAQA brands may advertise on this website or be mentioned in coverage; where a story materially concerns a CAQA Groups product, service or brand, we disclose that relationship within or alongside the article. Sponsors and advertisers are not given approval rights over independent editorial content before publication.
Labelling of opinion
Opinion and commentary are clearly identified, typically under headings such as “Opinion” or “Voices”, or with an author attribution and description that makes the nature of the piece clear. Views expressed in opinion pieces are those of the named author and do not necessarily reflect the views of The VET Sector, CAQA Groups or Career Calling International Pty Ltd.
Labelling of sponsored and paid content
Paid or commercially supported material is always distinguished from independent editorial. Sponsored articles, promotions and advertising placements carry clear labels such as “Sponsored”, “Promotion”, “Advertisement” or “Partner content”. Conflicts of interest
Editorial staff and contributors must declare any financial, professional or personal interest that could reasonably be seen to influence a piece of content. Declared conflicts are managed by reassigning the story, adding a disclosure statement to the published piece, or both. Contributors are required to disclose commercial relationships relevant to their submissions under our Contributor Terms.
Sources and verification
We review sources before publication. Wherever practicable we rely on primary materials, including regulator publications and decisions, legislation, official statistics, training package documentation and on-the-record statements. Claims that could damage a person or organisation are checked with particular care, and we seek comment or a right of reply from affected parties where practicable before publication. Anonymous sources are used sparingly and only where the editorial team is satisfied about the source's reliability and the public interest in the information.
Publication standards
We aim for accuracy, fairness and clarity in everything we publish. Facts, analysis and opinion are kept distinguishable. We use Australian English, attribute quoted material, respect copyright, avoid plagiarism, and take care with content that could be defamatory or that involves the privacy of individuals. Headlines and social summaries must fairly reflect the substance of the underlying article.
Corrections
We correct material factual errors promptly and transparently. If you believe something we have published is factually wrong, please follow the pathway set out in our Corrections Policy.
